Our Thoughts
A note from the founders, in their own words.
“We believed when we started the Trust and we believe even today, that if there exists one category of road-side destitutes which need help, it is the mentally insane.”
They cannot ask. They cannot explain where they came from, or what was taken from them. They cannot tell us that they are hungry, or in pain, or afraid. So we go to them — again and again — because the least able to seek help are the most in need of it.
People often ask us, “Why do you do this?” We have no elegant answer. We do it because a human being lying on a pavement in the rain is not something we are able to walk past. We do it because dignity is not something a person earns; it is something a person is born with, and something a society can either honour or ignore.
Most of us leave comfortable homes each morning and travel to work, past the very people this Trust exists for — unfed, unclothed, ignored and shunned. We ask only this of you: look at them once. See them with respect, with fairness and with honesty. That single change of gaze is where every rescue truly begins.
Being human, we are incomplete, imperfect and fallible, but we will put in all our efforts.
